Why does the wine from Springviews put a gleam in our eyes and a spring in our step?

Possibly, it is thanks to the reservoir of biodiversity that comes from having a vineyard in one of the oldest ranges of hills in the world.

Porongurup is an ancient island, thrust to the surface as molten magma millions of years ago. Plants like Billardiera Granulata and Villarsia Calcifolia are found nowhere else in the world.

To have survived for this length of time, their ability to defend themselves and obtain nutrients from these extremely leached soils has to be remarkable, and we can learn from them.

The trick is to use the same micro-organisms that have made the flora unique with the vines, to produce outstanding properties in the wine.

Resveratrol in the red wine is what to look for. Researchers have uncovered a diverse range of activities that make resveratrol one of the most useful agents ever discovered, for a wide range of human health problems. As Slim Dusty's song goes, 'The beauty of Australia astounds me'.

Vineyard and Wines

Andy and Alice Colquhoun have owned and worked the vineyards of Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon since 1987.

Springviews Wine's elegant Chardonnays are matured in French oak.

Springviews Wine's dry style Rieslings have superb fresh fruit characters.

Both styles of Springviews Wine's Cabernet Sauvignon have excellent berry flavours and good tannins. There is the traditional style matured in French oak. The second style is matured in stainless steel with oak staves, to retain the maximum antioxidant levels of resveratrol.

Springviews Wine is located on Woodlands Road, at the south west end of the Porongurup Range, in the cool climate of WA's Great Southern.
